There’s No One Quite Like You

Today’s verse:  Psalm 139: 13-18
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.  I praise you, for I am perfectly and wonderfully made.

I have an identical twin sister.  People always think that is amazing, and always ask what it is like to be a twin.   Never having been anything but a twin, I’m not really sure how to answer that question.   I do know one thing though.  Even though we look identical, we are two separate people.   We have our own thoughts, our own feelings, and our own identities.   It was difficult growing up because people never understood that – we were always treated as one “unit”.    When I went away to college without her, it was like being set free, to be known only as me, and not as half a person.

So many people (especially women) think that they have to look or be like someone else.   We are inundated with images of thin, beautiful models, and we want to look like them.  We constantly compare ourselves to others, and wish we were more beautiful, thinner, more athletic, etc.   We have to stop this!   Each one of us is beautiful in our own way.

The best part is, there is no one else in this universe exactly like you!   You are a unique and wonderful being that God has made, and that is amazing!   Be proud of what you are. If you do not like something about yourself, you can change it.  We all have the ability to better ourselves, and with God’s help we can do it. But we need to do it for ourselves, not so we can be like someone else.  We can exercise, lose weight, stop smoking, give up drugs, all with the strength of the Lord behind us.   And in his eyes, we are all beautiful anyways. As the Bible verse below states,  I AM PERFECTLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE!    Praise the Lord!  

Living Healthy Menu (Adapted from Prevention Magazine’s 28 Day Challenge)

Breakfast:   Scrambled Eggs with Tortillas

Saute 2 Tbsp each diced red bell pepper and onion in skillet coated with cooking spray until tender.  Add 2 lightly beaten eggs and cook, stirring, until cooked through.  Divide and place on 2 warm whole wheat or corn tortillas and top with 1/2 oz. shredded Jack cheese
12 Oz coffee

Lunch:  Spinach Feta Salad

Toss together 2 cups baby spinach, 1/2 sliced cucumber, 1 sliced hard-boiled egg, 1 oz. crumbled feta, and 3 black olives.   Drizzle with 1 & 1/2 tsp Balsamic vinaigrette.
12 oz. green tea or water

Dinner:  Grilled Salmon

Coat 3 oz. salmon with cooking spray and broil / grill until cooked through.
2 small boiled red potatoes
8 cooked asparagus spears
12 oz. herbal tea

Dessert:

1 oz. dark chocolate (at least 70% cacao)
2 marshmallows

Optional Snack:

10 whole unsalted almonds
20 yogurt covered raisins
